Roll Ups & Syndicates
TIGERS: The Tigers roll up around 8.00am to 8.15am on a Saturday and Sunday morning when there are no competitions on. The draw for games is made on the 1st tee at 8.30am. Play is in 4 & 3 balls with a private competition played off your handicap. Entry to the main syndicate where a handicap limit of 12 applies is £6 inclusive of a free sandwich and a share of a plate of chips. Once all the scores are in and the sandwiches eaten the winner pays the caterer and pockets the change. In the run up to Christmas and Easter there is a cumulative competition where the best 6 scores over a number of weekends count. The Tigers have at least one formal away day each year as well as ad hoc away days.
FOXES: This is the largest section of golfers at Sudbury Golf Club with over 100 members. The section caters for golfers with a handicap between 9 and 19 (inclusive) for an annual subscription of £10. The objectives of the section are to provide an extra interest in golf and social activities for its members by promoting competitions within the section, against other clubs and other sections of Sudbury Golf Club and to promote social events open to the section and other members of Sudbury Golf Club. The section runs approximately 13 internal competitions throughout the year and is also affiliated to the Middlesex County Foxes Association (MCFA) where the section competes against other Middlesex clubs in MCFA organised competitions, including the prestigious Abrey Cup which Sudbury’s Foxes have won in recent years. In addition to internal club competitions and MCFA events, the section is also very active in organising friendly matches with other clubs throughout the county. This offers members the opportunity to play golf at other clubs (at significantly reduced prices), while representing the club and section as part of a 10-12 man team. The Foxes play approximately 18 matches (bot home and away) throughout the year from late Spring to early Autumn.
WEEKEND SYNDICATE is open to all but they mainly attract middle to high handicappers. They roll up on Saturday mornings when there are no competitions usually between 9.00am-9.15am for the draw and a 9.30am tee off during the winter months and 10.00am-10.15am for the draw and 10.30am for tee off during summer.
BALLS-UP: The Balls-Up boys meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8.00am with the draw at 8.20am for a 8.30am start . Open to all but usually attracts middle to high handicappers, most of whom are fortunate enough to have retired but there is also a sprinkling of people between contracts or whose working hours gives them flexibility. There is no entry to a syndicate and the competitive element of games is to decide who buys the post game drink which many combine with a light lunch. Evening get together’s and golf holidays are also organised by these most sociable of people.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Meet at 11.15am in the winter and 12.45pm in the summer with a draw at 11.30am and 1pm respectively. Open to all with a very eclectic mix of people who are either self employed, between contracts or those who just need some fresh air and exercise. Play is in 3 & 4 balls and the syndicate entry is £5 which is a single stableford competition. Everyone gets a drink on the syndicate and the winner takes what is left after paying the bar tab.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: 9 Hole Challenge. Runs during the summer months with mixed groups of 3 or 4 making up as they arrive on the first tee between the hours and 5pm and 5.30pm
All of the above are on top of the handicap based sections of Tigers, Foxes, and Rabbits which you would have the option of joining . There are also Seniors and Over 70’s Sections where longevity is the key to membership.
The Ladies roll ups and syndicates also operate for non-competitive golf, and all lady members are most welcome to join in. The timings are fitted around competitions, particularly at weekends (email notifications are sent); midweek roll-ups are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9.30 am.
